Guy Checks His Bags: They Get Damaged: He Posts An Angry Facebook Status: The World Spins Madly On

A rock violinist’s angry post about finding his luggage damaged after flying from Bali to Singapore has gone viral.
Katei Chang, 34, said on Facebook on Monday (26 February) that after a flight from Bali to Singapore on Singapore Airlines, he picked up his luggage at Changi Airport only to realise that “the lock has been ripped off and my suitcase broken into.”
The Japan-born musician who lives in Australia posted an accompanying photo of the damaged luggage, adding that “you can tell by the picture that it was broken into with a lot of force.”
In his Facebook post laced with vulgarities, he questioned Bali’s international airport as to whether they did background checks on their staff internally.

I live for these. These are my lifeblood. So predictable. A couple times we get this type of thing, some fool decides to check something valuable, or anything at all, and it ends up fucked. They get all mad and post an angry social media post, full of pictures and indignant words, and it goes viral. On one hand, if you want to go viral, check your bags and wait for the inevitable to occur. On the other hand if you like your stuff and aren’t a fucking idiot, don’t check your bags. Just don’t.

This is not rocket science. This is not new. This has been the case for a long time. Checking your bag is opening a pandora’s box of terrible things that can happen to you. Baggage claim running way far behind? Shouldn’t have checked your bag. Bags lost? Let me answer that question with a question. How many times have you lost your bag when you bring it on the plane yourself? Exactly, zero. There’s no place to run. It doesn’t happen. That would be the dumbest attempted at robbery in recorded history. Baggage handlers look at the word “fragile” like I look at the written language of Russia, with zero comprehension.

I cannot count the number of times I’ve seen a musician screaming out of his window at a baggage handler just absolutely abusing his “fragile” guitar case. Hate to see it, but such is life. We forget about the last one until someone else’s stuff gets messed up. It’s unfortunately true with gun violence, and it’s also true with the viral “such and such airline has no respect for my luggage” post.

That’s why you don’t check your bag. In this day and age, anything that happens to your luggage is your fault. You do everything in your power to keep your luggage in your grasp until they pry it from you. I’m issuing a decree: if you rant about lost bags, damaged goods, or otherwise terrible treatment towards your checked bags and you go viral, you are blog fodder. This is your final warning, and you’re lucky I’m only giving you one. If you check your bags, all ensuing darkness is on you. Viral posts are for corgis that ride horses off into the night, not for your whine and cheese party.
