High School Senior Takes His Senior Photos At Whataburger: Does He Want To Be My Friend?
Instead of taking his photos on the beach or in a studio, Tristan Smitherman used the Whataburger in Saraland as his scenic backdrop. The photos were taken by his English teacher, Justin McNellage.
"If my kid asked me what were you known for in high school, dad? I would say I was the one who took his pictures at Whataburger,” said Smitherman. "Any time of the day, any time of the night, if anybody asked me to go to water burger, I'm going to be down. That's just how it is."
He says the obsession started when he was a wide receiver for the Saraland Spartans football team.
“After every football game, we would always go out to Whataburger, no matter if we won or lost."

Burger stop! This guy gets it. Most of the time it takes people up until their twenties to get it, but this kid gets it now. No your kids aren’t going to think it’s cool that you combed your hair for your senior photo, they’re not going to care how nice the lighting is, and to be honest, they probably won’t even care that you took one in the first place! I will tell you this though, your kid will think it’s fucking awesome that you got your senior photo at Whataburger. I feel like so many high school kids, probably myself included, would look at something like this and take it WAY too seriously. Honestly, it’s classic high school kid to think that their senior photo is going to matter AT ALL in the future. Fuck no, it does not.
Also, I don’t know if you even need a reason to take your photos at Whataburger, but there are none better than this, "Any time of the day, any time of the night, if anybody asked me to go to Whataburger I'm going to be down. That's just how it is.” Yeah, that’s exactly what this photo should accomplish: just act as an honest depiction of what that particular kid’s reputation has been in high school. Would I have been psyched that my photo would have encapsulated picking my nose in the library, and being petrified that I’d stand up in front of class and have a boner? Probably not! But fair is fair. This kid gets it. I don’t know if the high school kids will get it dude, but let me guarantee you everybody else will. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a statement that tells me so much about an individual’s character. A standing applause for Tristan Smitherman.
P.S. The only problem with this photo shoot is that it didn’t include a honey butter chicken biscuit, but then again that’s a 2AM Whataburger special. He’ll learn in college.
